Notes From The Underground - Punk-rock and DIY indie - Punk-rock and DIY indie

I get a lot of emails from PRs every day. Every hour. NONE has ever grabbed my attention like this - it contained the below video, from a band called 'Milking The Goat Machine'. They are a grind band. They wear goat masks. They play a type of music called goatgrind.

That song is called 'Surf Goataragua'. I don't know what to do with myself right now, other than watch it OVER AND OVER AND OVER.

continued...

You will notice the stilted style of this blog post. That is because I type a sentence, then go back and watch more of the video to make sure it still exists.

That one's called 'Sour Milk Boogie'. I checked again, and yes, it does exist. This is all genuinely happening in the world right now. Goats. Grind.

Goatgrind.

We must tell the world.

You mean you've only just heard about Goatgrind? Where the fuck have you been, Ben?

Huh? Grind music with goat masks? Metal bands have been wearing masks for years. (You guys at the NME used to love a band called Slipknot, remember?) If you want ludicrous (but excellent) music, listen to something like Melt Banana (best album is Cell Scape).

Apart from the masks, I don't see how this is any different from regular old grindcore.

On second thought, it's pretty awesome when they break into "Wipeout" during that first one.

You do realize that's a cover of a Sacred Reich song, right? The original is called "Surf Nicaragua".
