‘Carpool Karaoke’, the segment from The Late Late Show that sees James Corden driving around with celebrities singing along to their own songs on the stereo, is a great thing. Bieber’s done it. Adele’s done it. ASAP Rocky and Rod Stewart did it AT THE SAME TIME. Make no mistake: 2016 is a wonderful place to be.
Well, every great format has its imitators. Manchester City football club riffed on the formula with Noel Gallagher, and now Kim Kardashian wants a piece of the action. She joined Snapchat last week and has been using the app to break the internet once again. Her bio is just the peach emoji, for goodness’ sake. Kim was born to meme, as illustrated by her series of snaps of husband Kanye West rapping along to his own tracks in their car. Look, at least he’s not tinkering about with The Life Of Pablo on Tidal.
Here he is grinning along to Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1:
And, look, here he is, still at it, this time with Kim beaming into the camera:
Then he had a go at his favourite song of 2015, Justin Bieber’s ‘What Do You Mean’. Needs more autotune.
Thing is, don’t Kim and Kanye look kind of… normal here? Don’t they look just like a normal couple, singing along to stereo, taking daft pictures of each other, on their way to the supermarket? And then it hits you: they’re just like us!
Like, they’re superstars, but they still do all the same mundane things we do. Really, when it comes down to it, we’re all just bags of flesh, blessed to be in the moment, singing along to Justin Bieber. If that doesn’t fill you with an enormous sense of well-being, you clearly don’t spend enough time thinking about Kim Kardashian’s Snapchat.
