In this week's issue of NME, on sale January 7, we pick out the ten bands you need to hear in the coming year.

You can check out each of the artists we're tipping below, but obviously if you want to know more about them – including which artist spent her 16th birthday repeatedly jumping topless out of a tree, and which ultra-serious band harbour a secret passion for go-karting – you'll need to pick up the mag.

More importantly, we want to know which artists you think are worth hearing in 2009. Reveal your tips by leaving a comment below.

Let's Wrestle, they probably won't even chart but I don't think they'd care anyway. Just one of many great bands on Stolen Recordings. Screaming Tea Party are also amazing
james [Visitor] //January 7 2009 at 15:24
lets wrestle are amazing actually, i recommend
jack putter [Visitor] //January 7 2009 at 15:26
gill. An american band from Virginia. Rock, reggae, funk...you name it. Debut LP is in progress. Watch out for them. I have seen them live a couple of times and they are fantastic.
guly [Visitor] //January 7 2009 at 19:00
absolutely HOORAY FOR EARTH
UpstairsDown [Visitor] //January 7 2009 at 20:38
Empire of the Sun sound so much like MGMT on the above track, it's spooky!
annie [Visitor] //January 8 2009 at 01:08
apache beat and a few other new brooklyn bands set to release in 2009... can't wait!
Gladys [Visitor] //January 8 2009 at 01:25
Might have been a good idea to put the Kid Cudi remix up here? I knows it NME and all and this page is all about supporting the artist..but this track is all about the Crookers remix - without it, its nothing. Grow Up
Pelle [Visitor] //January 8 2009 at 12:30
Sweden's best kept secret Scaramanga.
Gramski [Visitor] //January 8 2009 at 14:52
You forgot the Little Comets, awesome band. Going to be massive.
chester [Visitor] //January 8 2009 at 15:12

shaunchap [Visitor] //January 8 2009 at 17:24

red_wing [Visitor] //January 8 2009 at 19:42

Patd [Visitor] //January 8 2009 at 21:50
Fred, an Irish band. Sounds pretty good
Bow [Visitor] //January 9 2009 at 04:05
Empire of the son are the biggest rip offs of MGMT and the curly hear guy looks like some lost Wolfmother member. Just bad
Ghvinianidzigol [Visitor] //January 9 2009 at 10:17
The White Lies song is actually the Psychedelic Furs "Pretty In Pink" with other lyrics.
polly [Visitor] //January 9 2009 at 11:06
Um, OK, didn't realise MGMT had a monopoly going on - I think the Empire of the Sun track is great, and a worthy love-child of The Sleepy Jackson and PNAU boys.
Grapefruit [Visitor] //January 9 2009 at 11:56
Aussies rule! hahaha..

Alexis [Visitor] //January 9 2009 at 16:18

Lee Smart [Visitor] //January 9 2009 at 18:41
White Lies and Little Boots get my vote! Kid Cudi, come on, he's had enough help from crookers already hasn't he, he doesn't need the nme on his ass aswell! Kudos to the man who said Ghost Frequency though, stupidly underrated band!
ManHawke [Visitor] //January 9 2009 at 19:32
WHAT ABOUT LA ROUX?
burger man [Visitor] //January 9 2009 at 22:28

"TWISTED WHEEL" ALL THE WAY BABY!
badger [Visitor] //January 10 2009 at 12:14
empire of the sun are legends i reckon, they have a great sound even if it is somewhat similar to mgmt...theyre not ripping them off tho, they just have a similar musical direction. i also really enjoy white lies and florence and the machine - top stuff. but look out for little red and mystery jets - fantastic stuff.
trippedout [Visitor] //January 11 2009 at 07:40
the longcut. nuff said.
Jon [Visitor] //January 11 2009 at 10:35
I don't get White Lies - its interpol, editors and the bravery rolled into one. Except with less imaginataive tunes
[Visitor] //January 11 2009 at 13:18
empire of the sun is just bad bad pop, and has nothing to do with MGMT's psych stuff.
sir vincent chimney [Visitor] //January 11 2009 at 15:33
oh dear, don't hold out much hope if this is the best the NME can come up with...i nodded off during each video...
Zack [Visitor] //January 11 2009 at 17:13
The Stiggz, been on radio 2 abit recently on Janice Long, they've got better tracks than the myspace ones though. www.myspace.com/thestiggz

Trevdaman [Visitor] //January 12 2009 at 00:13
I Like White Lies And The Virgins. White Lies Sound Like The New Killers. And The Virgins Remind Me Of A Bit Of Franz Ferdinand And Razorlight
josh arnold [Visitor] //January 12 2009 at 12:11
Not looking good for rock'n'roll 2009? 'The Neon Empire' are the best new band I saw in 2008 - British rock at it's finest!!! Nice one Little Boots with your Tomy-tronic!
Sarah [Visitor] //January 12 2009 at 15:10
An awesome band that are destined for great things are the Sound of Guns. Went to see them up in Liverpool last month, and they blew the place apart! The lead singer is mesmerising on stage!
the moddddddd [Visitor] //January 12 2009 at 15:44

Hey. What about 'the good natured'?? Shes brilliant! Give her a listen on myspace
Longy [Visitor] //January 13 2009 at 05:50
the retards claiming 'empire' are ripping MGMT should know that the album came out around 8 months ago in oz and was well and truly established before mgmt made it big!
Shereen [Visitor] //January 13 2009 at 06:11
In the UK - thecocknbullkid US - The Music Lovers (though not exactly 'new')
Mac Mac [Visitor] //January 13 2009 at 07:51
Empire of the Sun record was apparently written end of 2007, you cant say that they ripped MGMT's "sound". Wow, luke steele sings falsetto, i forgot that MGMT had a patent on that after electric feel.

Jon [Visitor] //January 13 2009 at 17:09
the cocknbullkid is great, and Rabbit Bazooka!
Jess [Visitor] //January 13 2009 at 21:32
Im surprised NME haven't picked up on La Rebla Fam. Im not an a&r but I reckon they will be massive xx
Vincent [Visitor] //January 13 2009 at 22:57
Hep, Glasgow scene! A-lix, Fangs, Baby Bones... loads of electro-punk coolest acts that are going to rock 2009
Andy [Visitor] //January 14 2009 at 01:00
Madskull, The Girobabies, Cheviot Hoods and Shoot the Dead are all better than these artists imo. The Soft Pack and The XX sounding good tho
phil [Visitor] //January 14 2009 at 22:24
la roux , dan black and empire of the sun. people saying what about fleet foxes, animal collective, gang gang dance. Well, fleet foxes and gang gang dance all just released albums last year and have already broken through, and animal collective have just released their ninth album, how could they possibly be considered?
phil [Visitor] //January 14 2009 at 22:25
also, i wish that i liked florence but i really think she is stupidly overrated. i don't need an NME approved Ida Maria thank you.
Celeryuk [Visitor] //January 14 2009 at 22:38
White Lies - Surely they are The Bravery??
moore [Visitor] //January 16 2009 at 00:29
different but I really like it www.myspace.com/therossmannfristerproject
james [Visitor] //January 16 2009 at 01:10
