Godlike?
Some bands are born Godlike Geniuses, others achieve Godlike Genius and some have Godlike Genius status thrust upon them...
Choosing the recipient of NME's Godlike Genius Award is one of the more enjoyable parts of organising the Shockwaves NME Awards. It's a chance to celebrate those bands that are the reason we do what we do (past winners have included The Clash, U2, Ian Brown and, of course, Primal Scream last year), and the debate in the run up to the decision is always fierce.
Since we started the tradition of the Godlike Genius closing the main ceremony back in 2005 with New Order, the field of potential winners has narrowed somewhat but that hasn't stopped people in the NME office suggesting the likes of Michael Jackson (too weird!), Pete Doherty (too unreliable!) or Nirvana (too dead!) on a near daily basis.
Still, the die has now been cast, and we're extremely excited about the artist that will be picking up the gong on February 28th, 2008. Wanna know who it is? Of course you do.
And you'll only have to wait til next Tuesday to find out... :P
