V 2007

Manic Street Preachers

Obviously, NME loves the Manics like any self respecting music connoisseur should. They've made more important records than Pete Doherty's had arrests - a smattering of which they blast out tonight, from 'Motorcycle Emptiness' to 'A Design For Life' - and we're totally in awe of their kohl-eyed punka brilliance.

continued...

But we can't help but feel that the half-hearted greatest hits set they've hawked around this year's festivals - including, today, an ironic cover of Burt Bacarach's 'Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head' - just isn't enough any more. They barely touch on their latest LP, much-touted return to form 'Send Away The Tigers', and barely say anything of note other than dull quips about the weather.

Even Nicky Wire seems to age another five years every time he steps on a festival stage these days - a sure sign that the Manics' time might soon be up. Go out with a bang rather than a whimper, eh fellas?

Best Song: 'Motorcycle Emptiness'

Best Moment: James Dean Bradfield quipping that Nicky was wearing his shortest ever skirt.
