Despite the lack of a traditional rock headliner this year, Friday at Reading packed enough hard-edged acts to satisfy yours truly. And while the windy weather didn't especially flatter Deftones' melody laden riffage, their afternoon performance did enough to remind why they're still one of the most talented and interesting rock bands on the planet.
Given the diversity of this year's line-up, not to mention the band's extensive back catalogue, it was surprising how much of the set's backbone comprised of the heavier moments of the 'Around The Fur' and 'White Pony' records. The band of course also took time to break out the big chords with 'Be Quite and Drive (Far Away)' and the epic 'Change (In The House Of Flies)'.
