5 Lesser Known Acts You Have To See At Benicassim 2011

By NME Blog

Look at the headliners playing Benicassim 2011 - Arcade Fire, The Streets, Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes... what more could you need? Well there are plenty of lesser known acts that you shouldn't miss out on, no matter how tempting the Main Stage in the Spanish sunshine is.

Anika

Why: Journalism, music promoting, making tunes influenced by punk, dub, and 60's girl bands - Anika is annoyingly talented at a lot of things. Her self-titled debut album is so good, however, we'll let her off.
Where and when: Fib Club, Sunday.

Spectrals

Why: Best Coast support act and Leeds-based internet-sensation Spectrals is Louis Jones' lo-fi, vintage-pop baby. Perfect for a summery weekend in Spain - chilled out rock 'n' roll.
Where and when: Fib Club, Saturday.

Star Slinger

Why: Darren Williams knows his way round a record store and how to pick out R'n'B gems, cut them up and create something brand new to get you dancing.
Where and when: Fib Club, Saturday.

Veronica Falls

Why: These lot aren't exactly newbies to the music industry, having played the festival circuit for a few years, but they still haven't quite received the recognition they deserve. Expect blissed out 80's indie and broken love songs from the four-piece.
Where and when: Fib Club, Sunday.

The Dandies

Why: With all that summery, chilled out pop. You could do with some grungy punk couldn't you? Step forward The Dandies, Switzerland's answer to Kings Of Leon, The Strokes et al.
Where and when: Jack Daniel's Stage, day TBC.
