Who: Ellie Goulding

Where And When: Saturday, Virgin Media Stage

Vibe: Ellie hauled in a decent sized crowd that were more than keen to join in chorus for her singles ‘Guns And Horses’, ‘Starry Eyed’ and ‘The Writer’. The staple diet of songstress and floor drum served its purpose very well, with a rallying of percussion on ‘Salt Skin’. There was certainly an aphrodisiac in the air, with couples conjoined and looking coo-eyed at one another, either at the prospect of the weekend ahead or just the glaze of alcohol already kicking in.

Best bit: Her admittedly cringe-worthy, but equally enchanting cover of Elton John’s ‘Your Song’, received the loudest chants and found the burliest of men gently swaying.

Low point: Melodically beautiful it may be, but Ellie’s vocals seemed to pale behind the presence of triggered sounds.

Banter: Hhmmmm…Banter, or lack there of. Never one to over indulge in deepened conversation, Ellie shouted “Are you OK at the back?”

Verdict: Lack of banter and overriding synths aside, the romantic atmosphere and crowd participation boosted the whole performance.
