Frank Turner’s Surprise Set At Leeds 2011 – Review

Who: Frank Turner

Where And When: Lock Up Stage, Friday

Vibe: Surprising fans with a special gig after his early afternoon Main Stage slot, Frank Turner treated the ones who decided to find out who was playing the mysterious gig to a setlist of classics on the first day of Leeds. He told the crowd, “We’re on the Lock Up Stage, it’s the punk rock stage and this is where I feel at home.”

Best Bit: When Chuck Ragan from Hot Water Music joined him onstage for a version of his solo song ‘The Boat’.

Low Point: That some fans missed out, what with it being secret and all.

Banter: Taking to the stage, “My name is Special Guest, although they spelt it wrong on the backdrop. We thought we should play some different songs to our earlier set, maybe some older songs, maybe some drinking songs. This one is called ‘The Real Damage’.”

Verdict: 8/10. Despite deserving his Main Stage slot earlier in the day, there’s nothing quite like watching the man in action on a smaller stage.
