Kendal Called, Pretty Fucking Loud

It must have freaked the deer out, but once they got over the initial shock of a few thousand people descending on their otherwise peaceful habitat, the ones with half decent taste in music must have been loving the free house party that went on all night, every night, for the whole of last weekend during Kendal Calling festival.

The Streets, Middleman, Goldie Lookin' Chain, The Sunshine Underground, Frank Turner, Idlewild, The Zutons, Craig Charles and loads more were happily wandering the tiny site between making a lot of noise. And among the first people I bumped into, appropriately enough, were the Beat Herder promoters who had infiltrated as the owners of the Camel's Arse caf.

I took a slightly better camera this time, so hopefully fewer readers will get travel sick. Unfortunately I missed The Zutons, but I did find a tribute act that I think you'll like.

The weekend, as far as I'm concerned, belonged to Ash. I feel like I've taken them for granted over the years - one of the first gigs I ever went to was Ash supported by Idlewild in Leeds, and on the Sunday of Kendal the two bands were on one after the other yet again.

Playing a few new tunes and announcing a brave new move to release 26 singles in a year, rumour has it they're planning a very unusual tour of the UK later this year. I loved them so much at Kendal that I made a separate video, just for them. Enjoy. Or, y'know, not.
