Who: LCD Soundsystem

Where and When: NME/Radio1 Stage. Reading Festival, 10pm, Friday.

LCD Soundsystem

Vibe: Party time. Far from the Guns N' Roses meltdown happening on the Main Stage, James Murphy and Co. showed Axl Rose how a true professional performs: exuding a genuine passion for music, respect for fans... and wearing splendid green wellies.

Best bit: Just one of the numerous set highlights was 'Daft Punk Is Playing At My House", sparking a volcanic eruption of pogo-ing and dancing amongst the crowd. An extended 'All My Friends' was an electro masterclass.

Low point: "Take the water," James Murphy told fans being offered bottles by event security at the front as the crowd swelled. "What other advice? Have safe sex. Don't go on a date with anyone you wouldn't marry!"
At this point we kinda craved the ridiculously-dressed Axl shouting the 'C-bomb' word like a real rockstar.

Banter: "I'm an arsehole, but not the kind of arsehole who says, 'You're the greatest crowd' every time he plays. But so far you're the best crowd we've had at Reading!" (James Murphy)

Verdict:
An energetic and heartfelt headline set that closed the NME/Radio 1 stage at Reading on day one on a real high.

And the perfect antidote to Guns N' Roses' bloated, troubled, guitar-solos-by-numbers posturing.

Rating: 9/10
