So V 2011 is kicking off in Chelmsford and Staffordshire as we type. We will be reporting direct from the two sites all weekend, head over to NME.COM/festivals and download our NME Festival App – Powered By BlackBerry for news, photo galleries, and backstage video interviews. As well as the big bands, here are five things you should check out today…
1. Watch Abandoman at Hylands Park
Ireland’s 7th biggest hip hop crew are hitting The Glee Club comedy stage today. Believe us, with a weekend that includes Eminem, they’re another rap act that must be seen.
2. Make every can count
Take your empties to the Every Can Counts football cage on either site to have a shot at the goal for each can you recycle there. Having the best footwork of the weekend could earn you a prize.
3. Join Moshi Moshi for a house party
Past and present home to some of indie’s finest including Slow Club, Florence And The Machine and Friendly Fires. Bods from the Moshi Moshi label will be DJing in the Virgin Media House, where you can also use the free wi fi and chill out or get off with a randomer in the kitchen. Just like a real house party.
4. Prove your footwork skills on the Just Dance bus
So you are all going to ruin your attempts of trying to impress that special someone when you drink one too many ciders later and try, and fail, to copy Rihanna’s dance moves. Try and soften the blow now by proving that you can dance, a bit anyway, in this mini-bus-come-dance-mat-emporium.
5. Don the imperative festival fancy dress
Well, it is a festival, and for some reason you always feel a little less bad about being coated in mud if you’re dressed as a air stewardess/clown/giraffe/mime.
