Vibe: In keeping with ‘Smother”s vibe, this was an artful, nuanced and post-coital performance heavy on the teasing sexual tension. It was indie romp o’clock.

Best bit: An odd, tribal take on ‘Plaything’. More disturbing than the album version (in a good way).

Low point: A mammoth, 20-minute soundcheck which is bit of a mood killer. Equally so is the sight of Hayden’s dad dancing.

Banter: A good Pink reference aside (“Let’s get this party started!”) the Beasts would rather let the music do the talking.

Verdict: A band in their element, going full-throttle ahead in their own, sweet musical direction.

Rating: 8/10
