‘The Daily Star’ are reporting that Arctic Monkeys will be tonight’s top-secret special guests. They’re wrong. It’s far more exciting than that. But we can’t tell you who it is yet, obviously…
Soundchecks are underway here at the O2 Academy Brixton (first up: Friendly Fires). I just had a look at the setlist for The Cure’s show-closing performance tonight, and believe me, it’s going to be jaw-dropping.
Also playing live tonight from 8.15pm – aside from the secret special guests – are Elbow, Glasvegas (with Florence And The Machine) and Franz Ferdinand (who’ll be joined onstage by a special guest).
And rest assured you’ll be able to follow every moment here at NME.COM/AWARDS. Here’s what we’ve got lined up for you…
From then on you’ll be able to keep up to date via the live blog and rolling photo gallery, as well as checking our three webcams, which update every 10 seconds and are trained on the red carpet, main awards room, and the backstage photo room (which is where all the winners go to drink, backslap, and get their picture taken for the mag).
We’ll also be posting regular updates via Twitter.com/nmemagazine. But to join in the broader chatter about the ceremony, make sure you bookmark this page. It’ll enable you to read all the Twitter posts, worldwide, relating to the Awards.
To make sure your comments and observations are included in this social media ‘event’ (for want of a less wanky phrase), make sure your Tweets include #nmeawards.
But if you can’t join in the fun tonight, you can always watch it on TV later. The Shockwaves NME Awards 2009 will be broadcast on Channel 4 at 11.35pm on Friday (27 February), or alternatively at 7.30pm on 4Music. There’s a highlights show on Channel 4 the following morning at 10.55am.
Plus NME TV are covering the event across the day this Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday (27 February – 2 March). Tune in every day for interviews with the winners, backstage footage and loads more.
And of course, there will be interviews, backstage gossip and souvenir posters in the next issue of the magazine, on sale from Wednesday 4 March.
Phew. I think that’s it… see you later for the live blog, from about 6pm.
