A Very Merry Christmas With Kasabian And Noel Fielding – Inside This Week’s NME (Dec 17)

Without wanting to blow our own trumpet with too much seasonal vigour, we think it says a lot about our 2011 NME Christmas issue cast list that getting Cliff Richard to do our ‘Does Christmas Kill Braincells?’ quiz isn’t quite the highlight of the issue. For lo, we got Kasabian to unwrap the most madcap festive gift of all: Noel Fielding, who’s back to bring the craziness the world needs more than ever. In our feature the trio talk about how they’d reinvent Christmas (they want He-Man to deliver presents instead of Santa), plus give us the shimmy on Noel’s new TV show Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy, for which Serge has made the soundtrack. Oh, and did we mention that for the piece the Kasabian lads literally wrapped Noel in Xmas paper? It’s worth a look, to say the least.

Also in the issue we heard about The Maccabees’ New Year’s resolutions. No, not to give up smoking fags or visit the gym four times a week – to release the album that’s going to make them enormous in 2012. The lads give us their track-by-track guide.

Plus, we got Mr. Alice Cooper to dress as Santa, say which presents he’d buy various rock stars, and regale us with tales of how a snake once shat all over him live on stage. And how he once went Christmas shopping with a massive boa. The guy loves snakes, and we love him.

There’s plenty more festive fun filling our bulging sack of seasonal joy. We’ve got Xmas chats with Biffy Clyro, Azealia Banks, The Vaccines, the aforementioned John Lydon, Hurts, Howler and loads more.

We’ve got Cerebral Ballzy’s guide to having a fucked up Christmas (yes, it involves taking drugs). We’ve got the likes of Reni from The Stone Roses, Faris from The Horrors and loads more to design Christmas cards and have got them up on NME Extra to download and print out. We’ve got a massive quiz, crossword, and Liam Gallagher’s letter to Santa. And – yes! – we’ve got Cliff!
