1. Arcade Fire - ‘The Last Time’ (Rolling Stones cover) & ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ (Cyndi Lauper cover)
The quality isn’t great, but the content sure is. Arcade Fire covered The Rolling Stones and Cyndi Lauper (as well as Blondie and Creedence Clearwater Revival) at their surprise show in Haiti last week. The 45-minute set was part of the band’s efforts to raise money for the country’s earthquake relief effort. Click here for a full set-list from the night, and check out some video footage below.
2. YACHT – ‘Dystopia (The Earth Is On Fire)’
Here’s the first track from the duo’s next album, ‘Shangri-La’, out this June through DFA. Inspired by the “post-apocalyptic science fiction” of Octavia E. Butler, this track is YACHT’s “post-apocalyptic fight song, a cautionary tale, a science-fiction story for our particular eco-socio-political landscape,” as they describe it. Hey, it’s the catchiest fight song we’ve heard.
3. Gold Panda – ‘I Suppose I Should Say 'Thanks' Or Some Shit’
This one’s from his latest release, ‘Companion’. It’s a compilation of Gold Panda’s early 2009 EPs, as well as one extra track, ‘Police’. But this song’s certainly got the best title out of them all. Head over to ghostly.com to order the album (out now), and to download this free MP3.
4. Noah And The Whale – ‘Give It All Back’ (live)
Visit Nylonmag.com for a free download of a gorgeous live version of ‘Give It All Back’, taken from the band’s latest release, ‘Last Night On Earth’. You can also find out what film frontman Fink wishes he could have soundtracked, and what he always brings with him on tour.
5. Parenthetical Girls – ‘The Pornographer’
Ever wanted to see Zac Pennington naked in bed? Take a look at the latest, NSFW video from Paranthetical Girls for ‘The Pornographer’ (if the title didn’t already give away the NSFW part). This saucy song can be found on ‘Privilege: Pt. 3 - Mend & Make Do’, out March 22nd through Slender Means Society.
6. Domo Genesis & Hodgy Beats – ‘TANGGOLF’
Domo Genesis and Hodgy Beats are from OFWGKTA/Odd Future/whatever you wanna call them have shared a new tune on their Tumblr page. It’s an updated version of GZA/RZA’s ‘4th Chamber’, from the classic ‘Liquid Swords’ album. Old beats, new rhymes, good stuff.
7. The Golden Filter – ‘SUICIDE’ mix
The duo called this mix ‘SUICIDE’ because most of the tracks they picked were about death and love. And the fact that it kicks off with a little kid singing in French over some eerie-sounding music doesn’t really make it any less haunting. But it’s a damn good mix, with tunes from Nico, Factory Floor, Esben And The Witch, Glass Candy, Micachu And The Shapes and loads more.
8/9. Holy Ghost! – ‘Wait & See’ / LCD Soundsystem – ‘Drunk Girls’ (Holy Ghost! remix)
Here’s two new tracks that popped up on the web this week from Holy Ghost!. The first one is the latest single from their self-titlted debut album, out this week through DFA, and the second is a remix of LCD’s superb ‘Drunk Girls’ (in honour of the sad disbanding of the group). Have at it while the remix is still free on iTunes.
10. The Good Natured – ‘Wolves’
Hot off a Club NME show at London’s KOKO and a record deal with Parlophone imprint Regal, this trio are sharing a free download over on their Soundcloud page. ‘Wolves’ is, in the words of vocalist Sarah McIntosh, “about escapism, leaving the mundane normality of everyday life and entering a new world, whether it be a fantasy or a reality. The Good Natured will be releasing an EP this June.
