That rock’n’roll, eh? That rock ‘n’ roll, it just won’t go away.
Well, it won’t if you get a rock ‘n’ roll-themed tattoo – say, an Arctic Monkeys one. And what better band to pay an inky homage to? The four-piece, who over the years have swapped tales of hijinks in Sheffield back alleys for tales of debauchery at the coolest LA afterparties, boast memorable logos, the best lyrics and a singer with an iconic look. And once you start looking into it, social media’s awash with Arctic Monkeys tattoos, which usually fall into one of the three camps outlined above.
The swiggly AM symbol from their most recent album features heavily on superfans’ wrists, though we expected that. More surprising is the ubiquity of tattoos depicting ‘Crying Lightning’, a now quite underrated single from the band’s 2009 album Humbug. Less of a shock is the popularity of frontman Alex Turner’s lovely mug, though we never expected to see it hollowed out and replaced with a candle. And how anyone managed to pick just one Alex Turner lyric, though, we’ll never know.
All in all, the roundup below is a stark reminder that some people out there love Arctic Monkeys even more than you do.
