When British politicians reference the buzz topics of the day, it always comes off as painfully stage-managed and scripted - see David Cameron's cringe-inducing "too many Tweets make a twat" remark. You just know some Tory underling had prepared a report on the relative acceptability of certain swear words, and concluded that "twat" was OK.
When Barack Obama does it, by contrast, it just looks totally natural and cool. In fact, his remark that Kanye West was a "jackass" for interrupting Taylor Swift's MTV acceptance speech wasn't even on-the-record: it wasn't intended for broadcast.
But thanks to a combination of Twitter and TMZ, it's now all over the net.
Next week: Obama calls Jay-Z a "bellend".
