The vinyl junkies' Christmas is here

Record Store Day 2018 is only a few days away (Saturday 21st April), and over 200 stores across the UK are gearing up for what could be their biggest day of the year. With a record number of venues taking part, and tons of brilliant exclusive releases from the likes of The National and Courtney Barnett, this year’s annual event is set to be the best yet.

With so many excellent events to go to, you’re truly spoilt for choice. Here are some of the best from across the UK.

London

Rough Trade West

Where: Draywalk, 91 Brick Lane, London, E1 6QL
Doors open at? 8am
Why? Rough Trade are renowned for smashing it every single RSD. This year their lineup include soulful crooner Isaac Gracie, Haley and the blistering Goat Girl.

Where: 75 Berwick St, Soho, London W1F 8RP
Doors open at? 8am
Why? In their own words: “It’s the craziest day of the year here on Berwick Street – hundreds of exclusive vinyl releases for you buy; new friends to make in the queue; free goodies; exhausted staff members!” Sounds cracking.

Doors open at? 8am
Why? Free Jägermeister cocktails, live DJ sets and a secret vinyl auction for charity – basically it’s going to be top fun.

Why? Stocking over 500 exclusive RSD titles, there’ll also be in store performances from HINDS, Little Sims and a DJ set from Tim Burgess.

Truck Store

Where: 101 Cowley Road, Oxford, OX14 1HU
Doors open at? 8am
Why? Truck always pull it out the bag for Record Store Day, and this year is no exception. Making it Record Store Weekend – there’ll be live DJs on Saturday, and brilliant live music from Scott Matthews on Sunday. Get there early – as there’s usually a long queue (but they’ll be a “fiendishly fun” quiz to keep you entertained whilst you wait!)

Why? The fantastic Banquet Records will be stocking all the exclusive releases you could hope for, and there’ll also be live sets from AWOLNATION, Hayley and Tom Speight.

Why? For excellent live music from 10:30am until late, including Mastersystem, Drahla and Turbowolf.

Why? The oldest record store in England will be housing Trevor Burton, co-founder of The Move, who’ll be playing tracks from his new album in the afternoon.

Why? With live DJs from 8, bands in the couryard beer garden, RPM records are treating RSD as there beginning of their 30 years as a shop.

As part of BBC Music’s Record Store Day celebrations Lauren Laverne is taking her show on the road and will be broadcasting from Spiller Records, where she’ll be joined throughout the day by a host of excellent guests, including Gwenno and Gruff Rhys. Meanwhile there’s also going to be a few killer sets from Boy Azooga and Toby Hay.
