1. Big Talk – ‘Getaways’
We’ve been loving this new musical project from The Killers’ Ronnie Vannucci over at the NME HQ. We caught up with him at Hard Rock Calling (you can check out the interview below), and he told us about the pressures he felt going solo: “At a certain point you go down the rabbit hole and you don't know what you're doing.” Looks like he figured it out, though. Go snag a free download of his brand new single, ‘Getaways’, courtesy of Paste Mag.

2. Amy Winehouse – ‘Tears Dry On Their Own’ (Organized Noize Dungeon Family Remix) by Big Boi
It’s been a little over a week since Amy Winehouse passed away, but the shock of losing such a talented young musician is still definitely with us. M.I.A. released a song, ‘27’, dedicated to the many musicians who have died at the age of 27, and Big Boi also shared a touching remix on his Facebook page, with the message, “Previously unreleased. R.I.P. Amy.”

3. The Count And Sinden feat Katy B – ‘Hold Me’ (Urchins Remix)
This track might not be appearing on ‘Mega Mega Remix’ (out today), but it’s definitely mega and it’s pumping us up for the remix album of The Count And Sinden’s ‘Mega Mega Mega’. The compilation features reworks from the likes of Canblaster, XXXy and Lone, and you can stream a preview of it here. Check out what Urchins, a house/techno duo from Lincoln, did with The Count And The Sinden’s collab with Katy B, exclusively on NME.com.

4. Frank Ocean – ‘Thinking About You’
Understandably, Odd Future might not be your thing. You may very well find them offensive and downright awful. Don’t worry – lots of people feel that way. But OFWGKTA’s Frank Ocean’s solo stuff sounds pretty much nothing like the profanity-filled lyrics performed by Tyler, The Creator. Instead, it’s smooth and sultry and rather beautiful. Don’t expect to find it on any albums, though. As Odd Future state on their website, “This Aint Going On Shit So Far.”

5. Shields – ‘White Knuckle Tight Grip’ (Adrian Bushby Mix)
Allow us to introduce you to Shields, the latest musical project to come out of Newcastle. Their single ‘Spires’ is out today on iTunes (buy it here), but we’ve also got a free download of their tune ‘White Knuckle Tight Grip’, as remixed by producer/mixer/engineer extraordinaire Adrian Bushby (Foo Fighters/Muse/U2). If you’re stopping by Reading or Leeds Festival this summer, then keep your eyes and ears peeled, as the track will be included on the Action Aid videos with Huw Stephens (shown on the big screens between acts). If you’re in London, then you can catch Shields playing live this week at the Bull And Gate, Old Queens Head and 93 Feet East (supporting Bastille).

6. Howler – ‘I Told You Once’
Here’s another band we’re currently digging over at the NME office – it’s simple, straightforward, catchy-as-hell indie rock, and it’s exactly what you need in your life. Minneapolis four-piece Howler, who recently signed to Rough Trade, released their debut EP ‘This One’s Different’ today, so to celebrate, they’re giving away a free download of the lead track. While you’re at it, check out the promo video for ‘I Told You Once’ below, and learn a new dance.

7. Little Dragon – ‘Crystalfilm’
On their Facebook page, Sweden’s Little Dragon describe their sound as “Dreamy, rhythmical, shifting, moody rainbow sounds.” Take one listen to this track and you, too, will realise that if moody rainbows actually did make sounds, they would mimic this exactly. You can find this track on the band’s latest album, ‘Ritual Union’, out now.

8. Morning Parade – ‘Close To Your Heart’
Unless it was the sun poisoning impairing my judgement, I can almost certainly say that Morning Parade won me over when I saw them play at Ibiza Rocks a few weeks ago. And giving their brand new David Kosten-produced track a spin, I can confirm that they are, in fact, pretty darn good. These guys still haven’t picked a title, a release date or even a tracklisting for their debut album yet, so stay tuned for more news from the Essex lads.

9. Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. – ‘Morning Thought’
Detroit electro-pop duo Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. will be making their live London debut this October at Club NME, so if you plan on partying it up at KOKO that night, give a listen to their latest single (taken from their debut album ‘It’s A Corporate World’). They’re also planning on releasing a new EP around that time, so get on the band’s bandwagon now.

10. Kowalski – ‘Outdoors’ (Two Door Cinema Club Remix)
Think Postal Service meets Two Door Cinema Club, and you’ve got Irish four-piece Kowalski. And conveniently enough, these guys supported the latter act on their UK tour last year. Keeping this musical friendship alive, TDCC have remixed Kowalski’s single ‘Outdoors’. You can get the single, along with the remix, on August 22nd (via Everybody’s Stalking), but we’ve got an early listen of Two Door Cinema Club’s latest piece of work, which you can download for free below.
