The shortlist in NME‘s search to find Britain’s Best Small Venue in association with Jack Daniel’s JD Roots has been revealed.
Thousands of votes were cast for hundreds of venues across the country, but the list has now been whittled down to just 10 regional winners. Now it is your chance to vote for the overall winner.
And this week, we’re helping you along by profiling the ten shortlisted venues. Here, it’s the turn of Brighton Concorde 2.
To tell us who you think should be the overall winner of Britain’s Best Small Venue in association with Jack Daniel’s JD Roots, go to NME.com/smallvenues. Voting is open until May 28.
The winner will be announced in the June 8 issue of NME, on sale June 5, alongside a very special gig announcement for the winning venue.
Brighton Concorde – Regional winner – Southwest
Location: Madeira Shelter Hall, Madeira Drive, Brighton
Manager: Russell Haymes
Most memorable moment: The one Mr Jarvis Cocker debuted his solo record ‘Jarvis’ there’ in a secret show in November 2007.
Best Fact: Since being built in Victorian times, the building has also served a tea room, a bikers’ cafe and an amusement arcade. That’s before it became a mecca for gigs on the south coast.
Why should this venue deserve your vote?: One of the most recognisable venues in Brighton, every year it puts on some of the best shows at the city’s Great Escape festival. Oh yeah, and when you walk out the door, you’re right on the beach.
