Everything we know so far about Adele’s new album

The singer says it's arriving in September 2020

Global megastar Adele has set a release date for her fourth album – her first since 2015’s hugely successful ’25’ – and fans are already getting excited.

But what can we expect from the new record? And what has Adele been up to in the meantime? Here’s all we know so far. We’ll keep this page updated.

When will it be released?

After her manager assured a 2020 release, a clip of the artist confirming the news herself at a wedding party surfaced on February 16, where she was both performer and officiant for one of her friends. While speaking on stage, the ‘Hello’ singer told everyone there to “expect my album in September”.

Has Adele started working on the new record?

Yes, apparently she’s written some tracks for the new album.

The same music insider told The Sun: “She’s back in the UK and intends to write here. A number of studio musicians have been approached to work with her and she’s already penned some of the songs.”

The Sun also reported that Adele will spend most of this summer writing the new record.

Spotted in a New York drag bar, Adele apparently told the crowd, having been handed the mic, “I’m out in New York working”, in March 2019.

What will be the title for the new album?

We don’t know yet.

However, Adele said in a January 2016 episode of Carpool Karaoke that ’25’ was the the last album to be titled after her age – and said that her fourth record could be eponymously titled.

Her other two albums, called ’21’ and ’19’, also reflected her age at the time of writing.

“This is the last album after my age,” she told Corden. “I believe in trilogies, yeah. The next one is just gonna be ‘Adele.'”

So, it looks like album number four could be a break from tradition…

Have any tracks been released from her upcoming album?

Nope, not yet, sorry.

What has Adele been getting up to since her last album?

Adele has kept a fairly low profile since the global success of her third album ’25’ in 2015, which debuted at number one in 32 countries and sold more than 22 million copies worldwide.

Adele suffered vocal chord damage that forced her to cancel two of her four Wembley Stadium shows in 2017. After she finished touring in the summer of 2017, she said that she would be taking a break.

Since then, the star has made headlines by being a vocal supporter of the families affected by the Grenfell Tower blaze. The fire broke out less than a mile from her Kensington home.

She was seen attending a memorial service to mark one year since the blaze, having previously attended the scene to comfort victims and their families.

In the days following the blaze , she also visited a local fire station for ‘tea and cuddles’, and treated children from Grenfell to a private screening of Despicable Me 3 last August.

“They’re not receiving the things we think they are. It’s a fucking mess. No information is getting through, people feel helpless,” she said on-stage during a concert at Wembley Stadium. “No one knows what they’re doing down there, it’s chaos.”

In December last year, Adele provided the voice-over and soundtrack for a video for Grenfell United, a charity aiding the survivors and bereaved families of the disaster.

Adele celebrated her 30th birthday in May 2018, posting about her celebrations on Instagram, and praising Childish Gambino following the release of his new track ‘This is America’ and music video:

In April 2019, the singer announced that she had separated from her husband, Simon Konecki.

The singer’s representatives Benny Tarantini and Carl Fysh confirmed the news in a statement which read: “Adele and her partner have separated. They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.”
