1. Fol Chen – ‘The Holograms’
LA’s masked musicians Fol Chen recently released their third studio album, ‘Part II: The New December’, and you can download this lead single for free. A track about as mysterious as the band are, its distorted, lingering sound makes it just as enjoyable as the album’s first single, ‘In Ruins’.

2. Phil Selway – ‘By Some Miracle’
The much-anticipated debut solo album, ‘Familial’, from Radiohead’s drummer Phil Selway is set for release on August 30th, and you can head over to his website for a free download of this lead single. It’s short, sweet and beautiful, and it’s still got a bit of the Radiohead charisma.

6. Semi Precious Weapons – ‘Semi Precious Weapons’
They’ve opened for Lady Gaga on tour, which probably says a lot on its own. Frontman Justin Tranter wears high heels, fishnet tights and a whole lot of eyeliner, and this lead single from the band’s debut album ‘We Love You’ features the line “I can’t pay my rent, but I’m fucking gorgeous.” And judging from the song’s music video, they put on one hell of a live show. Nothing wrong with a bit of vanity and glam in rock’n’roll.

7. Royksopp – ‘Hus Nr. 9’
Norwegian electro-duo Royksopp have just released this track on their website. They write "Between two pages, in a dusty old book…we found this little number." Well wherever they found it, it's exactly the kind of song you want playing while relaxing under the sun.

8. Javelin – ‘Oh, Centra!’
There’s something insanely attractive about this song. Maybe it’s the chipmunk-like vocals, the Super Mario Brothers-sounding beats or the lyrics like “Do you wanna go to the park and kick the kangaroo?/They got a pouch in the front and plus a tail in the back”. Get it from Stereogum, where you can grab 26 other free downloads in their two-part summer mixtape.
