Have Gorillaz Ripped Off An Old Eddy Grant Song?

By Tim Chester

Posted on 15 Mar 10

We received an email from 'Electric Avenue' man Eddy Grant this morning, claiming Gorillaz have lifted a melody from one of his songs for their own single.

"I am outraged that the Gorillaz have infringed the copyright of my song 'Time Warp' claiming their song 'Stylo' to be an original composition" his statement reads. "My song sits almost note to note with their release and is a blatant rip off. 'Time Warp' is a very popular song and has been a staple of the DJ scene for many years and I feel total disrespect from Gorilliaz (sic) and their management company, especially as they are an established act."

What do you think, do Gorillaz owe Eddy Grant an apology and / or some hard cash?
