Exciting news for Atoms for Peace, Radiohead, Thom Yorke, Flea or Nigel Godrich fans! Which I'm guessing is quite a lot of you. Atoms for Peace have just released a song called 'Default'. It's on iTunes and it's an absolute diamond.

Atoms, the supergroup consisting of Yorke, Flea, Godrich, Joey Waronker and Mauro Refosco, are expected to release their first album this year. If 'Default' is anything to go by, we're in for a treat.

For anyone who has struggled to click with Atoms material in the past, you may be surprised to hear more of a traditional approach to songwriting. It speeds forward on a Lotus Flower-esque beat and a typically electronic ostinato motif. The key change into the chorus is unexpected - Thom Yorke's work away from Radiohead tends to be more simple and follow one mood - and when the song blooms, Yorke sings something like I left now but late is not so easy/I gotta stop, the will is strong but the flesh is weak . The knife-sharpening beginning to 'Lucky' from 'OK Computer' seems to have been sampled a couple of times. How cool is that?

Old school Radiohead fans who despair of Yorke's electronic, experimental direction might find solace in this track. It's undebatably beautiful and the best Atoms song for date. I'd even rate it among the best 'Kings of Limbs' tracks. Thumbs up!
