What’s so good about it?: “It does the best Middle Eastern food, it’s really local. In no way swanky.”

Where?: Wentys Tropical Foods, Upton Lane, London
What’s so good about it?: “It’s real, authentic Jamaican food. It feels like mum’s cooking. It’s been there for years. My mum used to go there. I’ve been going there for about 10 years now. It’s a real fixture in the community.
What’s good to eat there?: “Fried fish, rice and peas, and plantain.”

Where?: Lasan, St Paul’s Square, Birmingham
What’s so good about it?: “Gordon Ramsay gave it some award. It’s the best curry you would ever eat anywhere in England. My teeth were tingling.”
What’s good to eat there?: “I was really basic and got chicken tikka masala. But the chicken, man.”

What’s so good about it?: “That food is beautifully cooked and has all the Caribbean flavour I need in my life.”
What’s good to eat there?: “Jerk chicken, mango salad, plantain, chicken wings, salt fish and ackee, dumplings; it’s a good place to eat.”

What’s so good about it?: “It’s a breakfast place right by the lake. I go there a lot, and I know people who go there, so it’s like my community.”
What’s good to eat there?: “Sri Lankan breakfast; dahl, eggs, noodles, coconut sambal.”
