Here’s your weekly batch of the ten best MP3 downloads floating around the web this week.
1. La Roux – ‘Bulletproof’ (Acoustic)
We’re not entirely sure where this came from, but this acoustic version of ‘Bulletproof’ took the web by storm this weekend. Even though the song has been out for a year and has been played one too many times in the clubs, this stripped down version is like a breath of fresh air. Maybe we’re not sick of the song just yet.
2. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros – ‘Memory Of A Free Festival’ (David Bowie cover)
As we reported last week, the tracklisting and release date for the David Bowie tribute album ‘We Were So Turned On’ have been announced. Covers from acts such as Duran Duran, Warpaint, Chairlift, and Lights will be available October 11th. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros recorded Bowie’s 1970 hit ‘Memory Of A Free Festival’, which you can download below.
3. Roxy Music – ‘Virginia Plain’ (live on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross)
Another treat for glam rock fans, Brian Ferry and his band Roxy Music stopped by the series finale of Friday Night With Jonathan Ross last week, where they performed hits ‘Virginia Plain’ and ‘Love Is the Drug’. What a way to end the show.
4. Morcheeba – ‘Even Though (Surfing Leons Afternoon Remix)’
On July 26th, Morcheeba will be releasing five remixes of single ‘Even Though’, courtesy of Belgian production duos Mustang and Surfing Leons. Grab this entrancing Surfing Leons Afternoon Remix for free, and check Morcheeba out on tour when they hit London in October.
5. Belle & Sebastian – ‘I Didn’t See It Coming’ (Live)
So much good news for Belle & Sebastian fans – they’ll be back in the UK in December 2010 (it’s been four years), and they recently debuted a new song at a live show in Helsinki. Not counting the first 30 seconds of cheering, it’s surprisingly good quality. So if you’d like to know what they’ve been up to during their hiatus, then check it out below.
6. Mighty Mouse – ‘A Summer In Space’ Mixtape
Production duo Mighty Mouse have just revealed their July Mixtape, and you can download all 52 minutes of it for free, including beats from Ichisan, A Mountain Of One, Satin Jackets, Ajello, Last Rhythm and more.

NYC indie rock-trio Versus disbanded in 2001, but they’re back with a new album, ‘On the Ones and Threes’. Apparently based on the 1950 film ‘Gone To Earth’ and recorded while guitarist Richard Baluyut was “deliriously ill”, this is the second single released from the forthcoming album.
