1. Metronomy – ‘She Wants’
Metronomy are giving away the first new track from their forthcoming third album, ‘The English Riviera’, at their official website. Kick back, watch the song’s video, and pretend it’s a hot and sticky summer night (in some warped third dimension where time freezes and people have four eyes).
2. Fleet Foxes – ‘Helplessness Blues’
This May, Fleet Foxes will be returning with a new album, ‘Helplessness Blues’, out via Sub Pop/Bella Union. Head over to Stereogum for a free download of the title track, and click here to pre-order the 12-song album. It’s standard sounding Fleet Foxes – and that’s a beautiful thing.
3. Clare Maguire – ‘The Last Dance’ (Chase & Status Remix)
One of our favourite new leading ladies of music has been remixed by Chase & Status. So go ahead and download the track that shows off her Annie Lennox-like vocals atop the Chase & Status beats. Maguire’s debut album, ‘Light After Dark’, will be out on February 28th.
4. Kill Hannah – ‘Promise Me’
This one’s an exclusive download the band have kindly donated to NME.com readers. Taken from their sixth studio album ‘Wake Up The Sleepers’, the single will soon be available digitally, along with an original demo, an acoustic version and a remix. It’s completely different from what fans might expect, and is, according to frontman Mat Devine, “the most honest, deeply personal song” the band have ever released. Check out the video (starring Devine’s real ex the song was written about) and grab the track for free below.
5. Gucci Mane & Sinden – ‘Free Gucci 2: The Burrrtish Edition’ Mixtape
Gucci’s releasing his second free mixtape – this time produced by Sinden, and with help exclusively from British artists (Tinchy Stryder, Toddla T, Wiley, Hudson Mohawke, Duke Dumont and These New Puritans). Follow the link below for a full tracklisting and a free download of the 16-track release. He might have a ridiculous ice cream tattoo on his face now, but the music’s still great.
6. Dum Dum Girls – ‘He Gets Me High’
The Dum Dum Girls are giving away the title track from their forthcoming EP (which will also include a cover of ‘There Is A Light That Never Goes Out’ by The Smiths). And to add a bit of an interactive element, the girls are apparently asking fans to submit pictures of whatever/whoever gets them high to ddgLUV@gmail.com. If you’re a lucky winner, your picture might end up in the band’s next tour booklet.
7. Discodeine feat. Jarvis Cocker – ‘Synchronize’
The Britpop legend joined forces with French duo Discodeine for the track ‘Synchronize’ (taken from the duo’s debut full-length album, due out March 1st). Discodeine’s DJ Cedric Pilooski said of the track: “We were looking for a pop singer to sing on top of it; we'd just been with Jarvis in a Parisian restaurant, we always loved his lyrics, we thought he'd be perfect for the song. So we proposed it to him and he kindly accepted to come down to the studio to record these very poetic lines he's famous for."
8. Josh Madden & DJ Troublemaker – ‘Alabama Worley’
If our word isn’t enough, then listen to Mr. Madden himself tell you why this 15-minute track is worth checking out. Head over to nylonmag.com for the, as Madden describes it, “aural love note passed from the DJ booth to all the NYLON Girls in the world.”
9. Hercules And Love Affair – ‘FACT Mix’
FACT Mag have supposedly been nagging the band for a mix for the past four years. They finally got what they were asking for, and it’s even better than we could have hoped for. If you like classic house music (or what the band’s Andy Butler describes as “elegance, subtlety, a sophistication” and “fine art”), then this is for you. It’s only available for two more weeks, so get it now.
10. Lil Wayne – ‘Green And Yellow’
So if you’re not from America, you might not care about yesterday’s big Superbowl game between the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers – but Lil Wayne has proclaimed his favoured team loud and clear with this free track. Whether or not you care about the ol’ pigskin, it’s a song for all to enjoy.
