1. MIA – ‘27’
Amidst the outpour of loving tributes for Amy Winehouse, who died this past weekend, was this brand new track posted online by MIA. The unfinished demo was recorded some time ago, but the singer decided to share it on honour of Amy’s passing. It’s called ‘27’ to commemorate all of the musicians who have died at the age of 27. Whether or not you’re a fan of MIA, it’s still a touching tribute.
2. M83 – ‘Midnight City’
Squawking with the wails of trumpets, this first taste of M83’s next album ‘Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming’ is making us fall in love with Mr. Anthony Gonzalez all over again. Throw in some Zola Jesus (who’s also due to appear on the album) and we’ve got ourselves a winner. Plus, the single artwork featuring an alien ant-eater type creature is absolutely brilliant (or terrifying, whichever way you choose to view it). “I think it is a reflection of my 30 years of being a human being,” Gonzalez says about this track. “It’s a compilation of all my previous music together. It’s a retrospective of myself.”
3. St. Vincent – ‘Surgeon’
St. Vincent launched a “Tweet ‘#strangemercy’ to unlock the song” campaign on her Twitter. Good work, Tweeters – we’ve now been rewarded with this immensely sultry new tune. All that hard work was totally worth it. You can find ‘Surgeon’ on her new album, ‘Strange Mercy’, due out September 12th via 4AD.
4. Bon Iver – ‘Who Is It (Carry My Joy on the Left, Carry My Pain on the Right)’ (Bjork Cover)
How can one buzz artist make all the hearts of the entire music blogging community melt? Whip out a cover of a Bjork classic, of course. To celebrate what Milwaukee’s Mayor Tom Barrett dubbed “Bon Iver Day” (Friday), Justin Vernon and his band performed a rendition of ‘Who Is It’. Head over to Stereogum to download the track, live from the Riverside Theater, and watch the performance below.
5. Best Coast – ‘Boyfriend’ (Lindstrøm Remix)
Havaianas know how to do summer right. The American branch of the flip-flop makers are giving away this exclusive remix from Norwegian producer Lindstrøm over on their official Facebook page. All you’ve got to do is “like” the page, then you can download the track for free.
6. Givers – ‘Up Up Up’ (CSS remix)
The original version of this song was grand enough to draw our attention to Lousiana five-piece Givers. But leave it in the hands of CSS for a little while and it’ll become flashier than a disco ball on overdrive. ‘Up Up Up’ is set for release on August 1st through Island Records, and can be found on the band’s debut album ‘In Light’.
7. The Twang – ‘Paradise’
That’s right – it’s a new one from The Twang. They’ll be releasing their third album some time in 2012, but for now, enjoy their brand new single ‘Paradise’. This one’s available on their Facebook page (all you gotta do is “like” them to unlock the download link). You can catch them touring across the UK this September/October.

8. Moby – ‘Lie Down In Darkness’ (Live In Paris)
If you’re a Moby fan, then keep wearehunted.com on your bookmarks this week. He’ll be taking control of the website, providing the web with a free track a day. Today, he’s offering up a free download of ‘Lie Down In Darkness’, live from Paris. Stay tuned for remixes from D/R/U/G/S, Sei A, Rob Da Bank and Photek.
9. St. Lucia – ‘All Eyes On You’
I’ll admit that I’m not a huge fan of musical acts that decide to keep their identities hidden from the public. Some people might think it helps to keep all focus on the music, but I quite like knowing a bit about the person I’m listening to. That being said, I’m still really enjoying this track from newcomer St. Lucia. He’s a guy from South Africa, who moved to the UK and then Brooklyn, but we don’t know his name. And that picture is the only press photo he’s released. So for now, we’ll just have to enjoy the music on its own.
10. They Might Be Giants – ‘Judy Is Your Viet Nam’
Nothing these guys ever do will be as spectacular as their cover of ‘Istanbul (Not Constantinople)’ was (it was, after all, the tune of the early ‘90s in my books). But this minute-and-a-half firecracker of a track reminds us why they’re so fabulous and fun. You can find this one on their 15th studio album,‘Join Us’.
