1. Grabbing alternative music radio by its tired knackers...

...today from 10am I’ll be dishing out a ton of genuinely decent, different music on NME Radio. This means a bit of The xx and something new from Isa & The Filthy Tongues alongside an ear-bathing set of oldies including the likes of 4 Hero,(YES, it’s ‘Les Fleur’), The Bees, Mansun, Kraftwerk, and The Go-Betweens. Ooh, and in case you can’t remember why you ever bothered with Coldplay, I’ve got ‘Spies’ from their first album.

Plus, don’t forget there’ll also be something from my Album of the Week - ‘Gorilla Manor’ - by Local Natives (below), and the belting Beta Band meets Flaming Lips Track of the Week: ‘Yes!’ by Colourmusic

Local Natives

10am–midday on NME Radio (Find out how and where to listen here)

2. Sleeve of the day

Mean Jeans

I can’t quite work out if the sleeve for ‘Are You Serious?’ by The Mean Jeans is brilliant or abysmal, but that’s probably the point. The Portland Oregon punks’ album has just come out on Dirtnap records.

3. Free download of the day

According to London-based-hip-pop-entrepreneur-musician-type-producer-rapper-blogger Akira The Don a new L’il Wayne mixtape was due for release this Saturday, but has leaked this morning. Nab it while you can.

4. Buy this

If you only have the space/cash/time/inclination to buy one Radio 1 DJ-related compilation this week, make it this one. That’s if you haven’t already. Essential. JP we salute you.

5. Visual New Noise

As Peaches promos go, this new one for the Drums of Death-produced ‘I Feel Cream’ (currently all over NME Radio) is great, but rather tame*.

*(If, however, it IS quadruple-X rated Most Definitely Not Safe For Work videos you’re after, then this new version of Girls’ ‘Lust For Life’ is probably more your thing. But honestly, don’t say I didn’t warn you. You may blush, this is most definitely NOT for kids. Or Daily Mail journalists).
