NME’s Top 50 Film Soundtracks – What Are Yours?

Inspired by Trent Reznor’s Oscars win for his The Social Network score, we unveiled the Top 50 Movie Soundtracks today.

Featuring Jimmy Cliff, Steppenwolf, Vampire Weekend, LCD Soundsystem, Ice T, Slayer, Aretha Franklin and Buddy Holly alongside the obligatory Clint Mansell and Vangelis, the countdown numbers a pretty disparate bunch. There’s austere soundscapes from Nick Cave and tracks about big bums from Spinal Tap. There’s Radiohead B-sides, a snippet of Grieg and a lot of mid-nineties stuff. There’s seventies rock, classical pieces twisted out of recognition, and metal / hip-hop hybrids.

In fact, the only requirement for inclusion was that the soundtrack, be it a collection of songs or a specially-commissioned score, fitted the movie in question perfectly and helped it to both iconic status and the centre of our psyches. We’ve left out plenty of holes for you to fill in too.

Here’s the list in full. What are your top movie soundtracks?
