In two days, while in the throes of a two month North American tour, I will be 33 years old.
I've spent nearly two decades of that time within this band, documenting my own life within our collective music. Twenty years in, I still hold the same value system as I did when I was a teenager. I still feel as though I'm searching for something altogether pure each and every day. I try to live the most positive life that I can and in the process, relate to and help others with the meager tools I have.
So much of that comes into focus while touring. Day in and day out, the monotony sets in, only to be broken by slight interactions with those on the same path. To all of the people that have let our music and my words into their lives, your willing ears are truly appreciated. They always have been, always will be.
With all of that said, I want to say thank you to the bands who have helped steer me down this path I'm on. I still don't know where it's going to take me in the end, but I know that it is this music community that saved me and continues to help others.
Here are some bands that changed my life when I was young: Motorhead, Fear, Cro-mags, Celtic Frost, Voivod, Danzig, Slayer, Swiz, Agnostic Front, Slapshot...
...Sheer Terror, Killing Time, Leeway, Supertouch, Eye For An Eye, Poison Idea, Nick Cave, All, Black Flag, Rollins Band, Descendants...
...The Accused, Fugazi, Embrace, Rites Of Spring, Ignition, Lungfish, Jawbreaker, Neurosis, Rorschach, Unbroken, Universal Order Of Armageddon, Heroin, Mohinder, Into Another, Starkweather...
...Nausea, Fear Of God, Only Living Witness, The God Machine, Entombed, Cathedral, Carcass and Bolt Thrower.
Thanks to all of them. They all gave me a way out, and for that, I am forever grateful.
That's it for now. Heading on stage in St. Louis. Wish me luck.
