Got a double dose of BIG POP TUNE goodness for you this Monday afternoon - two big comfort blanket-shaped ditties designed to shut out the shitty weather, envelope you in their widescreen benevolence and make everything alright.

Our first hit of musical morphine comes from ex-Semifinalist Chris Steele Nicholson who now goes under the name Oh Minnows. This track – recorded in his hometown of Chicago and out today on Young & Lost – is beautiful. Think Chairlift at their most lethargy-pop, or The Big Pink untethered and floating into space.

Paper Route, meanwhile, clearly have their sights locked on the world's stadiums and have no doubt addressed the odd padded envelope to Brian Eno. This new single ‘Carousel’ is all huge shimmering drums and epic piano from the outset. Chest-pounding stuff. ‘Carousel’ is out on June 29th and precedes their debut UK album ‘Absence’ which hits the shops a week later. The band are pictured here (front row):
