Pokémon Go Plus And The Five Gamescom Previews That Will Thrill Your Inner Nerd

Gamescom, the world’s largest gaming event, runs until August 21 in Cologne, Germany, and so far its press conferences have revealed a load of new updates about upcoming games. Earlier this year in the USA, E3 2016 was treated to a host of great trailers and there were plenty at Gamescom too. Here are the most important ones to take note of.

Pokemon GO Plus

This convenient new wearable tech device is good news for Pokémon GO fans. It was teased a while ago but Gamescom gave us our best look at it yet; in short, it’s a watch that helps you catch Pokémon. Connecting to your phone via Bluetooth, you’ll get notifications from vibrations and LED lighting when there are Pokémon nearby or if you’re approaching a Pokéstop – and you can press the button to catch a Pokémon (but only if you’ve caught it before).
Release date:There’s currently no release date for the device.

Resident Evil 7

Some fans are upset that the new zombie game is a survival horror like Amnesia or Silent Hills, but the chills and thrills seem to come thick and fast if this creepy new trailer is anything to go by.
Release date: January 24, 2017

Metal Gear Survive

If people were pissed off about Resident Evil 7, that’s nothing compared to the barrage of abuse Metal Gear Survive has had. It’s a four-player co-op game, the first not to have the involvement of genius series creator Hideo Kojima, and instead of the ordinary storyline it pits your team against a load of zombies like a cyberpunk The Walking Dead. It’s also set in an alternate universe. But it could still be good!
Release date:2017

Steep

This snowsports game is out in December but it’s already won 2016’s Best Sports Game from Playstation Magazine and the E3 Games Critics Awards. In this new trailer, it looks amazing – and there’s plenty of multiplayer action too. It looks like the SSX franchise, but better.

Watch Dogs 2

2014’s original Watch Dogs put you in the shoes of hacker vigilante Aiden Pearce. All the same action, stealth and hacking elements are back but the new multiplayer flows seamlessly into the single-player part of the game, instead of being separate. This means there are no loading screens or lobbies, and you can play as much or as little of the multiplayer side of the game as you want – but if you choose not to get involved, you might miss out on its bonuses.

There are a few different things that make up the multiplayer side of the game. You can play co-op. You might be invaded by other players, who will try to slow you down. Then there’s the bounty hunter mode, in which up to three other players punish you for causing too much chaos in the city. But if you get to them first, you can get even bigger rewards than they would.
