Putting a claustrophobic art-school spin on the chiming indie-pop of bands like The Smiths, The Cranberries and Dunedin Sound cult heroes The Chills, Brighton indie sophisticates Fear of Men released one of the British debuts of the year in 'Loom' way back in April. From the Pompei museum relic-resembling corpse on its cover to the eruptions of melancholy within, there's a volcanic theme threaded through the record even before you hit anxious, brooding centrepiece 'Tephra', named after the rock fragments left by an ash cloud. Fittingly, the track's brand new video, premiered below, sees the group play with fire, burning the cadavar they created for its sleeve between starkly lit shots of the trio in action. "As we are also about to embark on the last tour for 'Loom' we wanted to mark the end of this part of the band's life by burning the figure from the album's cover," says guitarist Daniel Falvey. "The artwork reflected the recording of 'Loom' in that it took a lot of time and hard work to create, but we were happy to set it alight and see it gradually vanish before our eyes. As we turn our attention to the next album it's time to burn it all down and start again."
