The memorial service for Motörhead frontman Lemmy begins tonight (January 9) at 11pm UK time. It’s set to be a huge event, with the entirety of Los Angeles’ mile-and-a-half Sunset Strip to be occupied by fans gathering to watch the memorial service, after organisers at the Rainbow Bar & Grill – Lemmy’s favourite LA bar – realised it wouldn’t be big enough to accommodate the legions of people expected to attend.
The ceremony itself will take place at the Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Los Angeles – where the legendary rocker’s neighbours will include Michael Jackson, Bobby Womack, J Dilla, Eddie Cochran, Nat King Cole and Sam Cooke.
If you’re in the UK, though, you can still take part in this celebration of Ian Kilmister’s life. There are plenty of UK bars showing the funeral proceedings and providing offers on Lemmy’s favourite drink, Jack Daniels and Coke – a combination that fans are already petitioning to be renamed ‘The Lemmy’.
And if you’re not able to get to any of those places, you can still witness the event if you’ve got an internet connection. Raise a glass to the man himself, and watch the live stream below, via Motörhead’s official YouTube channel. “We want you all to be a part of this memorial service,” they say, “so wherever you are, please get together and watch with fellow Motörheadbangers and friends. Go to your favorite bar, or your favorite club, make sure they have access to an internet connection and toast along with us.”
