1. R.E.M. – ‘Discoverer’
Michael Stipe and co. will shortly be releasing their first album since 2008, and they’re giving away this preview track on their official website now. It’s great to have some new music from them, and it’s sounding pretty darn good. The new album, ‘Collapse Into Now’, is due out in March 2011.

2. Lykke Li – ‘Get Some’ (Beck Remix)
‘Get Some’ is the rather raunchy new single from Lykke Li – she sings “I'm your prostitute / You gon’ get some” and grabs her crotch in the video…it’s definitely a little raunchier than her 2007 single ‘Little Bit’. Well, left to Beck’s devices, this song’s now even grimier. Grab it from Stereogum.

3. Neon Indian – ‘Children Of The Revolution’ (T. Rex Cover)
This song’s no stranger to covers, but this one’s certainly different from all the others. It’s warped and mellow and sounds a bit like the soundtrack for a Marc Bolan video game.

4. Iron And Wine – ‘Tree By The River’
Here’s a gorgeous new track by Iron And Wine, from the forthcoming album ‘Kiss Each Other Clean’ (out on January 25th). For the price of an email address, it’s 100% worth it. (And if you decide to download it, make sure you check your spam folder. Seems that’s where it’s appearing for everyone.)

5. Beach House – ‘I Do Not Care For The Winter Sun’
If you’re getting sick of the holiday tunes, don’t worry – here’s a wintery track that has no mention of Frosty or jingle bells or sleigh rides. Just a peaceful, snowy song they’ve gifted to their fans. “We recorded this a few days ago in our practice space: its a winter/holiday song,” they wrote on their website. “its a gift to the internet, thank you for the lovely, intense year!”
