Being an R&B singer is all about projecting sky-high self-confidence and droning on about your sexual prowess.

No-one understands this better than Ne-Yo, who has detailed his manifest awesomeness in such international hits as 'Let Me Love You' and 'Sexy Love'.

Strange, then, that at a recent gig in Manchester he should quit the stage for no apparent reason, then return - only to stand there weeping like a schoolboy who's just called the teacher 'mum' by mistake and is being mercilessly mocked as a result.

Needless to say, Ne-Yo fans are up-in-arms. One YouTube comment, from someone called Strittmonki, summed up the mood of plangent disillusionment thus: "i always know he was a gay! he sing like a gay and he cry wtf".
