Spring King: Frontman Tarek Musa Talks Us Through The ‘Friends’ Joining Them As Tour Supports

Spring King frontman Tarek Musa may still be recovering from a lurgy borne out of his band’s last tour, but that hasn’t deterred the band from heading out once again, this time with a band of extra special, very cool “friends” playing before them: The Big Moon, The Magic Gang, Kagoule and Get Inuit.

“There are certain bands that you see over and over, but then there are certain bands that you actually want to hang out with too,” explains Musa. “You always get attracted to the friendliest people. Over the past year we’ve just got better and better mates with these bands, so we thought, ‘Let’s get them all out on tour.’ We couldn’t believe it when they all said yes.”

“The thing that all the bands have in common is the energy and how it’s presented,” he continues. “It’s not super mainstream pop or anything, but the way it’s recorded, it’s tiptoeing over to the mainstream. I think that’s a good balance. These bands have all come out of a place which is very DIY. Record it yourself, put it on Soundcloud and hope for the best. We’re not like a typical rock band in any way. There are no leather jackets or badass cowboy boots. All of us are quite nerdy.”

The Magic Gang

Tarek says: “The Magic Gang supported us at one of our first ever London shows, at the Electrowerkz. They’ve grown up with us and we’ve stayed in the same circles. They recently signed to Warner, which is awesome for them.”

The Big Moon

Tarek says: “The Big Moon contacted me in August last year and asked me if I wanted to record their next single, ‘The Road’. I mixed ‘The Road’ and produced the B-side, ‘Nothing About You’. We got on really well, and they played similar festivals to us, so we invited them on the road. It was a no brainer.”

Kagoule

Tarek says: “Kagoule, I saw them playing Sheffield this year at a festival and I was really blown away. They’re a three piece with such a loud sound. I said hi afterwards and we all just got on really well. And then I saw them again in a few other places. We were playing with them last week.”

Tarek says: “Get Inuit supported us on our last tour and they were just really fun so we thought, let’s get them on again. Get Inuit have grown so much even since that tour.”
