Fans of The Dears rejoice – the Montreal collective are back with a fifth album. ‘Degeneration Street’ is released next month, and sees the return of many of the members, including guitarist Patrick Krief and Robert Benvie. Here’s the opening track, ‘Omega Dog’, a very TVOTR-y five minutes dead of building synths, chopped up guitars and Murray Lightburn’s distinctive falsetto that culminates in a perfect swirling storm. Probably the album’s best track.
‘Degeneration Street’ is released 14th March on Dangerbird Records / V2 Benelux. The Dears play London’s Borderline on 19th April followed by Manchester’s Ruby Lounge on the 20th and Glasgow’s King Tuts April 21st.
Meanwhile everyone’s favourite laydee-slayer Cee Lo Green is offering a new freebie, a different version of ‘Fool For You’ from his modestly-titled ‘The Lady Killer’. Big bold soul from the big man featuring Grammy winner Melanie Fiona. Thankfully it still features that cymbal ripple noise from ‘Bills Bills Bills’ stuck in the middle of her bit.
Cee Lo Green plays the NME Awards Big Gig with The Foo Fighters, Band Of Horses and No Age at London’s Wembley Arena on February 25. Grab the few remaining tickets now.
