Remember The Spinto Band? There was a time circa a few years ago when they were everywhere. If I wasn’t interviewing the muse that inspired ‘Oh Mandy’ on the phone I was down Centrepoint Snooker Club in Central London stuffing down sausage rolls at their album launch, while their spring-necked mop-haired crooning echoed from every crevice of every stage I stood in front of for months. And I wasn’t even that into them.
Ubiquity might not quite beckon once again but they’re back – free of EMI and on Rough Trade, bringing out a new single and covering Tiffany.
Before the anal amongst you point out it was written by Ritchie Cordell in 1967, Tiffany pretty much owns that record. Or at least for anyone who’s made the mandatory pilgrimage to that bastion of cheese School Disco she does.
‘I Think We’re Alone Now’ is the B-side to their next single ‘Vivian Don’t’, which is out on March 2.
