1. The xx – ‘Shelter (Death To The Throne Remix)’
This has certainly been a big year for The xx, so it’s no surprise remixes are filtering in left and right. Here’s one of our favourites: a thumping dancefloor tune that still manages to showcase Romy’s stunning vocals.

2. of Montreal – ‘An Eluardian Instance (Styrofoam Mix)’
This ever-so shiny and colourful not-from-Montreal band have been remixed by Belgian electro act Styrofoam, and they’ve done a heck of a job at spicing up the already delicious song. And while you’re at it, watch the official video for the original version below…it will certainly get you ready for summer.

3. Tobacco feat. Beck – ‘Fresh Hex’
And here’s the latest from Tom Fec (of the band Black Moth Super Rainbow), from his second solo album, ‘Manic Meat’, due out the end of May. Not only does this song feature Beck, but apparently the two never even met to create the music – it was all done via email. Impressive, but not as impressive as the endless amount of “c” words Beck could come up with, including a “colour-coordinated cowboy” and a “concrete cactus.”

5. The Books – ‘Beautiful People’
It sort of sounds like some weird backwards spiritual chant of another world, but don’t let that put you off – it’s a good thing. From their forthcoming album, ‘The Way Out’, due in July, this experimental duo from Massachusetts have concocted one of our new favourite tracks.

6. Sleigh Bells – ‘Tell ‘Em’
New from this Brooklyn duo, it’s the best gunshot sound-filled song since M.I.A.’s ‘Paper Planes’. It’s available now for free download on their website (if you can manage to navigate it without getting a headache from the flashing pictures).

7. Interpol – ‘Lights’
They haven’t released an album since 2007, so this free track on Interpol’s official website has been a pleasant surprise. From the band’s still untitled fourth studio album, this free download has attracted so much attention that the server has crashed multiple times. So hurry and grab it before it’s too late!

8. Bird Show Band – ‘Quintet Four’
If Star Wars robot R2D2 suddenly decided to make some far-out elevator music, it would probably sound something like this. One of the many projects of Ben Vida (of Bird Show, Singer, Town and Country, Pillow, Terminal 4), Bird Show Band recorded all seven tracks of this album over a two-day session in 2008. Quirky and full of sounds that probably shouldn’t mix, this is outrageously fun.

9. Keepaway– ‘Yellow Wings’
In need of another feel-good tune from a Brooklyn-based indie band? We’ve got you covered. Go download ‘Yellow Wings’ from Keepaway’s upcoming EP ‘Baby Style’, due out at the end of May.
