Tributes have been flooding in for late pop icon Prince ever since news broke of his death last night. Noel Gallagher dedicated a song to him during a gig, Barack Obama said he was “a virtuoso instrumentalist, a brilliant bandleader, and an electrifying performer” and Minnesotans shared pictures bathed in purple. There was even a special Snapchat filter.
None of these can hold a candle to nature’s own coincidental eulogy. Barely hours after The Purple One’s death was confirmed by his publicist, a rainbow formed directly above Paisley Park Studios – the private recording compound on Prince’s Minnesota estate. It’s a touching image, and a fitting way to honour one of pop culture’s most daring innovators. Who knows, maybe the ‘Purple Rain’ singer did indeed have some mystical control over the weather? See the image below.
We’re still awaiting the cause of death, but the official autopsy is scheduled for later today. The musician was taken ill on his private plane on Saturday, but his team refused to comment and Prince was discharged hours later. Of course he went out the same evening because, well, he’s Prince.
So raise a glass of something purple this Friday night and dance ’til the early hours. It’s what he would have wanted.
