So, it's out today (11 January). Vampire Weekend's second album 'Contra' is streaming now on Vampireweekend.com. What do you think?
The consensus so far seems to be that, while it doesn't have as many immediate hooks as its predecessor, it's a more nuanced record, and one that extends the band's palette in intriguing ways.
NME's own Paul Stokes gave it an 8/10 review, opining: "Vampire Weekend have escaped their collegiate niche without sacrificing their true essence."
The big three monthlies - Q, Uncut, Mojo - have all splashed out four stars each, while Kitty Empire in The Observer lavished praise on "an album whose joyousness is tinged with wistfulness and regret."
But how about you? Is it better than their debut? A let-down? Which tracks immediately stand out?
