Following the release of a new set of character logos for Suicide Squad characters (see below), there’s now a brand new trailer for the super anti-hero flick, which lands later this year. The trailer is bold, it’s soundtracked by Queen and the movie looks devilishly fun.
Deadshot (Will Smith), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne) and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) all feature, as well as The Wolf Of Wall Street’s Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. The plot is still somewhat murky but from what we know, it turns the standard superhero narrative on its head – instead of the government instead recruiting the good guys to fix their problems, they put together a team of bad guys instead.
Most importantly, we get our first extended look at Jared Leto as the menacing and conniving Joker. Putting it simply – he looks psychotic. At one point he’s brandishing a tommy gun, the next he’s laughing maniacally on the floor surrounded by an array of butcher knives – fuelling the speculation that Leto’s portrayal as The Joker might just be bloody brilliant.
The trailer arrives after glowing reviews for Deadpool, produced by DC’s comic book rivals Marvel, and follows a lukewarm response to DC’s spoiler-filled Batman vs. Superman: Dawn Of Justice trailer. Suicide Squad, by contrast, is vague on plot details.
Suicide Squad, directed by Fury’s David Ayer is slated for release in August, so there’s a lot of guessing and fan theories to still be swapped, but from this first full trailer it seems DC’s bold answer to superhero supergroups is going to be as delightfully wicked as we all hoped.
