Not content with conquering the planet with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, J.J . Abrams has quietly been making the sequel to cult 2008 horror/disaster flick, Cloverfield.

The trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane was rumoured to be attached to showings of Michael Bay’s 13 Hours, and has now been confirmed with an official trailer – which you can see below.

What we know about the film is very limited at this point, but it looks like we could be heading for a Thing-style cabin-fever thriller as opposed to a battle with the grotesque city-swallowing monster we saw in the original. The clip features only three actors – Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman and John Gallagher, Jr. – but as we see, there might be something lurking outside the bunker they’re holed up in.

In a statement to Collider, producer JJ Abrams had this to say about the film, which has apparently been in the works since the 2008 film.

“The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”

‘A blood relative’? who knows what this implies but from the wording, 10 Cloverfield Lane might not be a direct sequel, but instead focus in the fallout from the monster’s trail of destruction from the previous instalment. Luckily, we haven’t got long to wait to find out some answers – the film will be getting it’s release on March 11, less than two months away.
