WU LYF Are Fucking Amazing – And Here’s The Proof

This week’s NME is packed with interviews and features on the new bands we think are gonna define 2011 – with Manchester’s WU LYF (World Unite/Lucifer Youth Foundation) among the most highly anticipated of the bunch.

You probably won’t see them in many official ‘sound of 2011’ polls, seeing as the band don’t really do interviews at present. But if you wanna know why they’ve whetted our appetites so much over the past year, as well as what you can expect from them in the coming months (hint: an album) then pick up the mag and have a read.

Right now though, check out these live videos of the band in action. And if you’re in London, Glasgow or Berlin this February, then take our advice and get along to their first ever gigs in your cities.

Here’s a nicely shot, short clip from someone called Daniel Heron’s Vimeo account, of one of WU LYF’s early gigs at their manager’s café An Outlet.

And here’s a couple of videos I filmed at their brilliant gig at Midi Festival in France last summer. This one’s the end of a song called ‘We Bros’.

This is ‘Lucifer Calling’, one of the band’s standout songs. This is the track Blaine from Mystery Jets bigs up as being “fucking amazing” in the latest NME. He’s one in a growing line of WU musician-converts to have chewed NME’s ear about the band in recent weeks (see also: Jonathan from The Drums, Milo Big Pink).

Finally, here’s WU LYF’s last officially released song, ‘Spitting It Concrete Like The Golden Sun God’ – the video for which apparently* resulted in Michel Gondry being so impressed he started cold-calling the band to find out more.

Below that, a mash-up taking the audio to the vinyl version of their song ‘Heavy Pop’ and putting it to Spike Jonze, Ty Evans and Cory Weincheque’s incendiary skate video ‘Fully Flared’ (aka the one with stuff blowing up that spawned a million imitators).

*We totally hope this isn’t bullshit.

Check out WU LYF’s websites at Worldunite.org and Wulyf.org, as well as their Facebook and Last FM to keep in the loop.
