Obama released his first summer playlist last year, splitting it into two: ‘Day’ and ‘Night’. He’s just done the same thing for this year, and one key detail has emerged, especially from the ‘Day’ side. No matter how cool you think Obama is – and among politicians he’s probably the coolest ever – he’s still a sucker for dad music. We’ve picked out the worst offenders.

‘Home’ – Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

‘Home’ is not, as the song says, “whenever I’m with you”. ‘Home’ is the folky stompathon that’s playing on Radio 2 when your dad picks you up from the station, before he hurriedly switches the stereo to aux and offers you the cord like he wasn’t enjoying it.

‘Me Gustas Tú’ – Manu Chao

Your dad doesn’t really know Spanish or French but he knows there's a line in here about liking weed, and he thinks that makes him pretty hip. Whenever this song comes on he tries to sing along, even if your friends are there, but he never gets any better at it.

‘Many The Miles’ – Sara Bareilles

‘Many The Miles’ is the jazzy, weirdly popular piano track that was playing all the time on TMF in 2007 – the one your dad kept saying he found irritating but you saw him tapping his foot to.

‘Good Vibrations’ – Beach Boys

This song's a classic, but your dad likes it because it reminds him of being young. That's nice for him.

‘Green Aphrodisiac’ – Corinne Bailey Rae

This is on Obama’s ‘night’ playlist, one many people on Twitter have called out as his sex playlist. Don't want to know what's on your dad's sex playlist? Too bad: he's gonna tell you about it anyway!

There’s a fair bit more dad music on there – and loads of good choices from artists like Courtney Barnett, D’Angelo, Gary Clark Jr. and Janelle Monáe. Have a listen below.
