It’s always nice when your electro giants come classically-trained. It guarantees a depth to the serotonin-syphoning dancefloor bombardment you don’t get with a lot of studio monkeys. Recently Krazy Baldhead (free track HERE) dropped a magnificently schizo debut thanks in no small part to his decade at a jazz academy and now Yuksek (whose album ‘Away From The Sea’ is out on Fiction on Monday) arrives fully-fledged as a former piano virtuoso. Really we should demand a certificate in future.
Perhaps it's something to do with them both being French too; they seem to do things more properly over the channel. Take this new trailer for Club NME Paris par example. If it doesn't make you want to stowaway under Eurostar with a fistful of Euros and some strong lager you're dead inside.
‘Away From The Sea’ deserves your attention for several reasons. Not only does it skip between funk-driven house to pop-hip-hop to rocky electro in every breath but it also drags a host of infamous caners into the studio to help out, from Vicarious Bliss to the long-lost Shitdisco (no doubt in a groggy Buckfast-fuelled haze). Fans of Cassius, DJ Mehdi or really anything Ed Banger will get quite excited.
