A Guide to The Las Vegas Scene That Inspired Shamir's Incredible New EP

This week at NME we're going big on one of our favourite breaking artists, 19-year-old Shamir Bailey. The Las Vegas newcomer has just released a new EP called 'Northtown' (listen below), which takes it's name from the place he grew up and lives in. As is explained in this week's mag, it's a world away from the vices, glitz and glamour of the Hollywood version of Vegas. In fact, its pretty much like this:

Here, just in case you're in the area any time soon, Shamir blogs for NME about some of his favourite hometown haunts…

RC Farms
Shamir: "Right in the heart of Northtown lies a stinky huge burden – a pig farm. You should check it out! They mostly raise pigs, but you can also find cattle, goats, and a bunch of other little animals."

Cannery Casino
Shamir: "It’s one of the best casinos in North Las Vegas. There’s an amazing theatre in there with IMAX and seats that vibrate with the action of the movie."

Nellis Air Force Base
Shamir: "Although I'm not a military child, almost all my friends are. I went to Nellis Air Force Base on Halloween to trick-or-treat, and sometimes my friends and I played music there for tips."

Fresh & Easy
Shamir: "The main reason I'm mentioning a grocery store is because this particular one is everywhere! There are three within walking distance of my house! I like them because they have a lot of organic and gluten-free products."

Crystal Palace
Shamir: "Not sure if it’s considered Northtown, but it’s still super close! Crystal Palace was and is pretty much the only place you can go if you wanna rollerskate! We would have parties there. The pizza was great and we’d just skate away all those empty calories."

Listen to Shamir's EP 'Northtown' below, and check out this week's magazine for more on him. Furthermore, read writer Alex Denney's Q&A with him online now.
